On 26 January 2017, Ambassador Dr. Gordon Kricke presented the Cross of the Order of Merit (Verdienstkreuz am Bande) of the Federal Republic of Germany to Philippine national Teresita Tanhueco Tumapon, PhD, of Cagayan de Oro City. The award was bestowed upon her by Federal President Joachim Gauck in recognition of her outstanding achievements for the German-Philippine cooperation in the field of higher education and for the promotion of German as a foreign language in the Philippines.
On the 10th of January 2017, Ambassador Dr. Gordon Kricke presented Father Ewald Dinter, SVD with the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit (Verdienstkreuz 1. Klasse) of the Federal Republic of Germany which was bestowed upon him by Federal President Joachim Gauck in recognition of his outstanding achievements for people and state.
Fourteen Southeast Asian nationals from the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar received a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship grant through the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) to pursue or continue their graduate studies at the University of the Philippines Los Baños for the current school year. The ceremonial handing over of five of these grants was held by Ambassador-designate Dr. Gordon Kricke at a luncheon hosted at the German Club Manila.
The German Embassy Manila is proud to announce that the Buddy Bears in Manila have finally been dressed for the occasion as the unofficial ambassadors of Germany – promoting messages of peace and friendship. From the Buddy Bear design competition held earlier this year, nine outstanding artists have submitted their entries with various interpretations of German-Philippine relations and cooperation.
There are several alumni associations established by Philippine students/academics/scientists who have studied in Germany. The Embassy encourages all former scholars to join one of these vibrant organizations to network, socialize and exchange ideas.
Goethe-Institut Philippinen and Liceo de Cagayan University (LdCU) High School extended their partnership to promote the continuous teaching and learning of German language upon the signing of another Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 22, 2016 by both parties. The renewal of the MoU paves the way for further strengthening of the cooperation under the program "Schools: Partners of the Future" (PASCH) of Germany´s Federal Foreign Office.
In February 2008 the Federal Foreign Office launched the “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH) initiative. The aim of PASCH is to create and strengthen a global network of some 1500 partner schools with special links to Germany.
